"The River" is still one of his deepest, emotional songs. Nothing 'lite' about it. It just doesn't fit on my abridged version of "The River" because it doesn't rock. After reading Warren Zanes' book on "Nebraska" earlier this year, it became clear to me what has always seemed off about the album: He was trying to merge the rockin' party Bruce with a new, darker, balladeer Bruce that would emerge triumphant on "Nebraska." But it leaves a disjointed album. So, I would go all rock, with one exception.

My lineup:
Sherry Darling
Jackson Cage
Hungry Heart
Out In The Street
Crush On You
You Can Look (But You Better Not Touch)
Point Blank
Cadillac Ranch
I'm A Rocker
Ramrod
(maybe as a hidden track at the end...The River, but maybe not.)

Shorter, tighter, more explosive.
Larry Aydlettenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32738800.post-162163422992209302023-12-18T02:41:03.178-08:002023-12-18T02:41:03.178-08:00Good reading yoour postGood reading yoour postIdiotesquehttps://idiotesque.tumblr.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32738800.post-41779909802583813082023-12-04T12:59:38.523-08:002023-12-04T12:59:38.523-08:00Great blogGreat blogVal the Tired Monsterhttps://valthetiredmonster.tumblr.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32738800.post-6482504619161284942023-09-01T17:49:52.823-07:002023-09-01T17:49:52.823-07:00I enjoyed reading youur postI enjoyed reading youur postTim A Loftishttps://timaloftis.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32738800.post-68026303149097074962023-07-20T16:25:39.197-07:002023-07-20T16:25:39.197-07:00Turd, yesTurd, yesAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32738800.post-77177865303877974502023-07-20T15:21:07.823-07:002023-07-20T15:21:07.823-07:00Thank you very much! RS was lucky to have Paul Nelson on board. I always wondered about that cover from one of the most overrated musicians of the 20th century.

I love Lester. Thanks for posting.
