According to Wikipedia, 74 red-clad security crewmembers met their demise on the original Star Trek series. (Hat tip: Wil Wheaton).The modern-day equivalent, I suppose, would be the CTU staff on 24. After six seasons of that show, it's a miracle that anyone is left to defend the republic, aside from Jack Bauer himself.
