I'll say the same thing about "Every Breath You Take" that I did about Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" - there are some songs that you know are timeless classics from the first time you hear them. I first heard this one on the car radio, and still remember the goose bumps that resulted from that first listen.
For me, it's always been the bridge that lifted the song from being "merely great" to becoming an all-time classic. The Police came up with a lot of good to great work during their initial time together, and this was one fine way to begin the final chapter.
"Every Breath You Take," The Police, from the summer of 1983.
